How to Cook Wild Rice in the InstantPot
I love wild rice.
I love that it’s a local food for me — since I live in its native region.
I love that it’s high in protein, allergy-friendly, gluten-free, has has 30 times more antioxidants than white rice.
Yet, it has one major downfall….
It takes for.e.ver to cook. 😉
The first time I cooked wild rice, it took over an hour.
Although I’m unfortunately part of the “Microwave Generation”, my family and I don’t even own a microwave, so I’m really not whining here.
That’s just a big jump from 20 minutes of cooking white rice — which we eat about once a week.
I’ve cut my cooking time almost by half by switching to my Instant Pot!
How To Cook Wild Rice In The Instant Pot
Here’s what you need:
- an Instant Pot
- 2 cups hand-parched wild rice
- 6 cups water, bone broth, or a combination
- 2 teaspoons salt
Here’s how to do it:
Add the wild rice, water and/or broth, and salt to the Instant Pot. Place the lid on the Instant Pot and turn until it locks into place. Make sure it’s sealed and not venting.
Press the manual button and adjust the cooking time to 35 minutes and the pressure to high.
When your Instant Pot beeps to let you know the cooking time is finished, open it and fluff the wild rice with a fork.
Now it is ready to add straight to my nourishing creamy wild rice soup or to mix with veggies for a wild rice pilaf! Enjoy!
